Begin Your Periodontal Care Journey

Taking the first move toward healthier gums is something to be proud of. Here’s what to expect during your first periodontal visit:

plaque+vs+tartar-1920w
Plaque & Tartar Evaluation

Your doctor will carefully check for plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth and along the gumline. These deposits are where harmful bacteria thrive, and if left untreated, they can irritate the gums further and eventually aggravate gum disease.

Periodontal Charting

This involves measuring the depth of gum pockets, checking for signs like gum recession, bleeding, loose teeth, and exposed root. The results are recorded in a chart, which serves as a valuable baseline for your specialist to monitor and track your gum health over time.

Bone Level Assessment

Digital x-rays may be taken to look beneath the surface and assess the bone supporting your teeth. Bone loss is one of the main signs of advanced gum disease, and spotting it early means we can take steps to slow or stop further damage.

Your First Step in Endodontic Care

Visiting us for endodontic care is all about identifying the source of discomfort and ensuring your tooth is healthy. Here’s what to expect during your first endodontic visit:

101000-8304345
Pulp Sensitivity Test

Tests using cold, heat, or mild electrical stimuli may be performed to assess the tooth’s nerve (pulp). These tests determine whether the pulp is healthy, inflamed, or infected, helping decide whether a root canal treatment is needed and how to perform it comfortably.

Endodontic Charting

Your endodontist will document your tooth’s history, past treatments, fillings, and any areas of concern in an endodontic chart. This detailed record acts as a roadmap, helping to monitor your tooth’s condition over time and make informed decisions about your treatment.

Check for Cracks

Cracks or fractures in your tooth can affect both the success of treatment and your long-term oral health. Detailed examinations, sometimes with magnification or X-rays, can detect them early so appropriate care can be provided promptly and effectively.

Getting Started with Sage Dental Specialists

If you’re visiting us for the first time, welcome! To make the first visit as smooth as possible, new patients are encouraged to complete our New Patient Registration Form ahead of time. This helps the team get to know your medical history and prepare for your appointment.

If you’d prefer to take care of the paperwork at the clinic, that’s fine too! Just plan to arrive about 10–15 minutes early to ensure there’s plenty of time to finish the forms comfortably.
